Legislation

The HSE's Shattered Lives campaign is aiming to reduce the prevalence of slips and trips in the workplace, which with over 11,000 workers injured last year as a result of slips and trips is a major problem for employers and staff alike.

One of the major causes of slips and trips could be the flooring, which could be wet if sufficient entrance matting is not used, or simply slippery.

Take the following steps to reduce accidents to your employees and customers:
Use appropriate entrance matting during wet weather.
Clean up spills quickly and adequately.
Consider the use of anti slip matting, and anti slip tapes and treads on steps to increase the roughness of the floor surface.
Ensure the floor is maintained to ensure that there are no trip hazards.
If a change of level is unavoidable, use tapes to highlight these.
