It is important that employers regularly inspect and maintain workplace machinery as per the Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations 1998. In a packaging environment machinery and equipment must be considered fit for use, and appropriate safety clothing and items must be used to keep staff safe.
When using equipment such as shrink wrapping or strapping protective gloves should be worn.
Ensure that knives and blades are not left exposed, and where possible safety knives and scissors should be used to prevent injury.
Protect eyes from sharp objects with goggles.
